Description

Addicting sweet Passover dessert

Ingredients

  • Matzah: 4 - 6 pieces

  • Brown sugar: 1 cup
  • Butter: 2 sticks (unsalted)

  • Semisweet chocolate chips: 1 cup

Notes

  • Incorporate your favorite toppings, like coconut and sliced almonds; or, replace some of the semisweet or white chocolate or peanut butter chips (just check that everything is Kosher for Passover, if that matters to you)
  • Can use light brown sugar, dark brown sugar, or a combination

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F
  2. Line cookie sheets with aluminum foil, then parchment paper on top of the foil
  3. Line the bottom of the cookie sheet with one layer of matzah, breaking pieces to fill the sheet as needed
  4. In a saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil
  5. Boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly
  6. Pour mixture over the matzah, covering completely (spread with spatula if necessary)
  7. Place baking sheet in oven and immediately lower the temperature to 350F
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, checking constantly to make sure it's not burning. If it seems like it's browning too quickly, remove the tray, set the oven to 325F, and replace the tray
  9. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips
  10. Wait 5 minutes, then using a spatula, spread the chocolate evenly over the matzah. Sprinkle with other toppings, if using
  11. While still warm, break into pieces
  12. Chill, still in the pan, then in refrigerator or freezer until set
